The inscription on the ring is "Thos Spencer died 2 Feby 1829 aged 50".  Thomas was a Bilston brass and iron founder in Church Street. His father was Joseph Spencer (1749-1811), a Bilston buckle maker. The ring is believed to have belonged to Thomas' wife Hannah (sometimes referred to as Joanna) nee Bratt (1778-1830). Distinguished descendants of Thomas and Hannah are Howard Spencer (captain of Aston Villa and England c1903) and Air Marshal Sir Robert Henry Magnus Spencer Saundby, who, as Air Vice-Marshal, was second in command to 'Bomber' Harris in RAF Bomber Command during WW2.
