Harrison Weir (1824 - 1906) was best known as an artist, particularly of natural history: he was also a prolific illustrator of book and papers, his work appearing in many well known publications of the time, including the "Illustrated London News," the "Pictorial Times," the "Field," and the "Pictorial World."
A man of many interests, in 1889, he wrote and illistrated the first book about pedigree cats, "Our Cats and All About Them" describing the pedigree varieties of the time. He had previously organised England's first cat show at the Crystal Palace in 1871 (which he judged with his brother John Weir) and in 1887 founded the National Cat Club, serving as its first President and Show Manager until 1890.
Harrison Weir (wonderful name) was certainly prolific and understood animals by the look of his sketches. I love them. Wonder what one would cost?
