Within the Parish is one of the largest hill forts in Shropshire. It is an impressive site which was occupied by the Cornovii and then by the Romans. Metal detected finds add to our knowledge of the period. Frank Taylor, one of the most dedicated of metal detectorists who sadly died last year has helped us to understand how the Cornovii lived. He found cosmetic pestles and mortars used for grinding vegetable matter which was painted on their faces. Flint was still used for tools a s the technology for working metal was developing.
