And this is how Gatacre Hall looked after decades of neglect. What a sad comparison with the postcard from 1905 when it looked such a proud house. This was not my photograph but when I saw the house in the 1980s there was almost nothingof it that could be seen. We looked around the garage and there was a lovely old car rotting. Perhaps there had been a party for there was an empty champagne bottle there amongst the rubble. One felt an intruder into this drama or tragedy which made you feel uncomfortable being there. Apparently the house was left in 1942.
