IN the Second World War Davenport Park was used as a training camp for American troops preparing for the D-Day landings. After the Americans left the Park was used to house Italian and German Prisoners of War. (I'm pretty sure both Italians and Germans were held here but that needs checking.) This map was made several years after the end of the war but it took time for all the POWs to be repatriated.
