Search Advice...

Searching by name/term:

Tags (names/terms) are chosen by the person uploading the item. Put in what you are looking for and if there is nothing which matches the search term try to make the subject more general. Tags will be picked up exactly as they are put in so if you are looking for something about falcons and you search for the subject in the plural it may be that there is an item but it has been tagged 'falcon.'

Searching by Location:

The automatic fill-in for the location picks up large villages or towns. If you put in the name of a smallplace, it may not be found so try a larger town/village nearby.

Searching by date:

You can search by exact year or by a date range eg 1902-1924

Items are commonly marked as being pertinent to a range of years, for example '1902-1924' or '1909-1913' - when searching for a specific year, these items will appear for each year in their range. You can use the "view by" filter at the top of your results to choose how you view them:

Best match: Will display items based on how specific to the current year they are. Using the examples above, if you were browsing '1912', the item dated '1909-1913' would appear first, followed by the item dated '1902-1924', as the first is relevant for 4 years and the second for 22!

Date Ascending: Will display items in order of the item date, with the earliest first. Using the examples above, if you were browsing the year '1912', the item dated '1902-1924' would appear first, followed by the item dated '1909-1913', because the inital range date is earlier.

Date Descending: Will display items in order of the item date, with the latest first. Using the examples above, if you were browsing the year '1912', the item dated '1902-1924' would appear first, followed by the item dated '1909-1913', because the final range date is later.
