Lady Emma Hamilton

created by heatherb

Emy Lyon of Ness, Cheshire has been portrayed, historically as a femme fatale and even a daughter of Wirral.  A classic rags to riches story, Emy, later Emma is passed from pillar to post from suitor to suitor eventually marrying William Hamilton in Naples in the 18th century.  Both take pity on a wounded Nelson and it becomes apparent that the relationship between Nelson and Emma is more than friendship, despite Nelson's marriage to Fanny Nelson.  A bitter wrangle ensues over financial obligations and Emma and Nelson's daughter, Horatia, following Nelson's heroic demise at the Battle of Trafalgar on the Victory.  Emma's final days are spent in poverty in Calais, France.
