In 2008 Frank Wright and his wife went to pay their respects to a serviceman who was buried in the Sharjah Cemetery. The sight which greeted Frank was totally shocking. There was rubbish strewn around and sand, scrub and bush had taken over the area. "It looked like nothing more than a tip...it looked like a builder's yard that had been neglected." And neglected it had been - for thirty years. Twelve British servicemen are buried in an area walled off from the rest of the graveyard which was once part of the RAF Sharjah base and which is now within the grounds of St Martin's Church.
Frank was determined to restore the graveyard to its former state and after only fourteen months hard work the cemetery was rededicated in January 2010. One job remains, Captain H.W. Brammall died at sea but was buried outside the servicemen's area in the graveyard. It is proposed that Captain Brammall be buried within the servicemen's area. When this is done, as long as the upkeep of the cemetery is maintained, the mission will be complete.
